Three Routes to an Occupation Permit

There are three different routes toward achieving an Occupation Permit. This then be converted into a permanent residence permit if certain criteria are met.

Investor

Investing in a business that achieves specified levels of turnover can qualify for a 10-year permit.

Investment Option 1

USD 50,000 initial investment. Turnover of over MUR 1.5m in year 1. Cumulative turnover of MUR 20m by the end of year 5. Renewal requires over MUR 5m per year from year 6.

Investment Option 2

USD 100,000 initial investment. Turnover of over MUR 1m in year 1. Cumulative turnover of MUR 15m by the end of year 5. Renewal requires over MUR 5m per year from year 6.

Innovation

Submit an innovative project to the Economic Development Board or join an accredited incubator with the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council.

How Investors Qualify for Permanent Residency?

Investors may qualify for a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit by achieving an annual turnover of MUR 15 million or a cumulative turnover of MUR 75 million over 5 years.

Professional

Working in Mauritius while earning over a specified monthly income can qualify for a 10-year permit.

Pro Pass

Salary of at least MUR 30,000 per month. Valid for up to 10 years.

Expert Pass

Salary of at least MUR 250,000 per month. Valid for up to 10 years.

Young Pass

Graduate on a salary of at least MUR 25,000 per month. Valid for up to 3 years.

How Professionals Qualify for Permanent Residency?

Professionals who are on an Occupation Permit and who earn a salary of at least MUR 400,000 for 5 consecutive years can qualify for permanent residency.

Self-Employed

A 10-year permit for foreigners who wish to relocate to Mauritius and work independently in the services sector.

Investment & Income

You need to make an initial investment of USD 50,000.

Income of at least MUR 750,000 in year 1, increasing to MUR 6 million by year 5.

Letters of Intent

Provide 3 letters of intent, at least 2 from local clients.

Employ Local

If needed, employ a local administrative staff member.

How to convert to a Permanent Resident Permit?

Professionals holding this permit who achieve an annual income of at least MUR 3 million (or a cumulative income of MUR 15 million over 5 years) may be eligible to apply for a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit.
